Put the simple past verbs into the story :
come - hear - open - say - not see - stand - give - hold - not read - take - run - say - not speak - turn - write

He ----- outside her door for a long time.
Then he -------her footsteps inside the house.
She -------the door and -------out.
At first she --------------him, but then she -----------"Oh hello, Harold". He --------a paper out of his pocket and ------it to her.
she ---------it in one hand, but -------------- it.
"Listen", he -------.
She ------------------------.
" I -----------you this letter because" .....
She --------- back into the house.
He ----and wolked slowly down the street.

He STAYED outside her door for a long time.
Then he HEARD her footsteps inside the house.
She OPENED the door and RAN out.
At first she DIDNT SEE him, but then she SAID "Oh hello, Harold". He --------a paper out of his pocket and GAVE it to her.
she TOOK it in one hand, but DIDNT READ it.
"Listen", he -------.
She DIDNT SPEAK.
" I WROTE you this letter because" .....
She TURNED back into the house.
He ----and wAlked slowly down the street.

Secondly, I made a mistake in the verbs: 2 times say (and not stay), I've corrected that just now.... please excuse me !
