Past participle/ adjective
Message from mohammad51 posted on 11-12-2021 at 17:15:53 (D | E | F)
Hello

Past participle \ adjective
I see that these adjectives come before nouns and sometimes come after nouns.
Please help me so that I can get these.
Is there a rule behind or it is just beyond one's guessing ?

Thank you in advance

----
Examples:
1- The elected man was very popular.
Why is it not ( The man elected ) ?

2- The car purchased in Seattle was a vintage Mustang.

Why is it not ( purchased car ) ?

Is it because the origin of the sentence = passive voice ?
If so, then both can be passive sentence origin.
The man who people elected him. He was elected by people.
The second, is also purchased by someone
Anyway, all imply a sense of a passive voice

Hello

1- The elected man was very popular.
Why is it not ( The man elected )
In fact, "the man elected" is much more frequent than "the elected man". "The elected man" often has a religious connotation, I think.

There are reduced relatives clauses in the passive voice in these sentences :
The car (that was) purchased in Seattle was a vintage Mustang.
The man (that/who was) elected was very popular.
