Bac/Idea of progress
Message de fati491 posté le 17-04-2017 à 20:08:12 (S | E | F)
Bonsoir,
Je suis en Terminale et j'ai préparé un texte pour mon oral d'anglais; pourriez-vous me donner votre avis et m'aider à le corriger.
Merci d'avance.

I'm going to talk about the idea of progress. Progress is the idea that the world and the society can evolve positively in therms of sciences, technology, modernization, living conditions etc. In order to illustrate this notion, I have chosen to talk about India, with 2 documents. The first document is a text from a nover "Secret Daughter", and the second document is an article. Why is India said to be a country of contradictions?

India is a modern and traditional country at the same time. It's an emerging country. India has become a major global player in the field of technology and services. It is one of the most dynamic economies of the world and its economic growth is slowly impacting the Indian society which aspires to greater equality and opportunities. As we can see in the second document, the greatest change is in the mind of Indians. They now know that they don't have to leave their country to have their personal revolutions.

The Indian society is a place of stark oppositions, still torn between tradition and modernity. Women, for example, have held the highest positions (such as prime minister and president) but many are still routinely oppressed. Gendercide is a dramatic issue; it consists in the systematic killing of women. There is a huge and unnatural gender imbalance in India. Millions of girls who would have been born are missing or have been killed in later life. As we can see in the first document, Kavita, who has just given birth to a baby girl, is afraid of her husband's reaction when he realises that his prince is actually a princess. He doesn't want to keep the baby because they're not a rich family and they need a boy to help them in the fields. To better understand, we need to examine the roles played by men and women in Indian society. Men still occupy the top positions and hold most of the power, in the family, in the community, in society. Women, on the other hand, are restricted to largely domestic roles.

In conclusion, we can say that India is said to be a country of contradictions, because it's a modern and traditional country at the same time. It's an emerging country, and the Indian society is slowly changing. But there are still inequalities between rich and poor people, and between men and women. Women are considered inferior to men in India, while most divinities are females in hinduhism, which is one of the most practice religions in India.
