Oral/Idée de Progrès
Message de newcall posté le 21-10-2016 à 02:21:58 (S | E | F)
Bonjour
je passe bientôt mon oral et j'aimerais une correction s'il vous plait. Je n'ai pas rédigé la partie où je me présente etc.
Merci pour votre aide

Idéa of Progress
The Idea of Progress is the theory that the different advances in technology, science, and social organization can produce an improvement in the human condition. That is, people can become happier in terms of quality of life (social progress, as the news family structures) through economic development (technological advances like modernization), and the application of science and technology (scientific progress for instance new treatments for disease). I’m presenting this notion through the following issue: To what extend does the progress impacts on our society? What effects do these advances have on human development and on societies? To answer this question, I’m going to talk about the scientific progress.
The first document study in class was an article extract from The Guardian Weekly which talk about the surrogacy. Tanks to it we’ve learnt that surrogacy is a technique of pregnancy by which a woman carries the foetus of a couple having fertility issue. These types of process are very practise in poor country like India. This text highlights these news medicals progress with the story of Sarita, an underprivileged woman of 26 years old, who was forced to get married when she was younger, and couldn’t continue her studies. She is a resourceful woman, she’s ready to seize any opportunities to change her living condition so she opts for the surrogacy. In India a large number of woman in the same case of Sarita opt for the surrogacy because for them, the prime motivator is the money. This process could have some impacts on our society with especially ethical problems. Indeed, even if this medical advance allowed people to have a child in biologic way, or for the single parents who want a child, we can as ourselves: what’s happens with the baby if he doesn’t correspond to the expecting of the prospective parents.
The second document talked in class another press article taken from “USA TODAY”, which talks about the medicine baby. A medicine baby is a child conceived to save one of his/her sibling suffering from a genetic disease. Tanks to this text we’ve learnt with Molly and Adam’s story, that this process require the use of Pre-Implantation Genetic Diagnostic. Molly is a young girl who has Fanconi Anemia, which she was destined to die early, because there is no medicine to treat her rare illness. The PGD practise is used by Molly’s parents on conceiving Adam in a test tube. This technique enables Molly to receives a bone marrow transplant from her brother (Adam’s blood cells) and she been able to be cured. This text showed that such an innovative scientific breakthrough can improve life expectancy and have outstanding results when it comes to healing severe diseases.
The last document seen in class was an extract from a book entiled “Brave New World”. which is a science fiction story. This story highlights us a new scientific process which involves creating artificial baby because of artificial insemination. They’re called “in vitro babies”. The director in this text, shows his medical center to a group of students. He presents it like a production factory and introduces his new process by explaining them that theses “Sciences babies” are selected because of their physical traits. This process is referred to a mass production of Humans and it’s obviously leading to uniformity and these similar babies, these clones are considered as a commodity deprived of individuality. Tanks to this text we see certain impact of the scientific progress in the human development. On the one hand this process preventing drawbacks and ensuring the birth of healthy human beings by eradicating any possible disease. Bu, on the other hand it also wipes out all identity and creates dehumanized people. It can crush all forms of diversity, bringing even to speak of eugenism.
To conclude, those document shows various consequence of progress. First scientific progress impacts society with ethical problem particularly with the surrogacy. These practice can be at considered as a women’s exploitation, who have no other choice. But it also can be considered as a way for some people to have a child. Then, science innovations can be a way to improve life expectancy by trying to cure various diseases with for instance de PGD process. For finish we can say that science can be a benefit but it can also prove to be a burden .

This process could have some impacts on our society with especially ethical problems. Indeed, even if this medical advance allowed people to have a child in biologic way, or for the single parents who want a child, we can as? ourselves: what’s happens with the baby if he doesn’t correspond to the expecting of the prospective parents.(Is this the first, and main problem?)
