Durant lesquels/During which?
Message de taranghiano posté le 03-06-2010 à 09:47:52 (S | E | F)

Bonjour,

No micro problem was noted during the first month of trials during which we switched from nitric acid to sulphuric acid.

Merci

Hello,

No micro-problem was noticed during the first month of the tests when we used nitric acid instead of sulphuric acid.

Best wishes.

Hello! I really like your translation, Lucile. Here's one that is slightly different:

No micro-problem was detected during the first month of trials when we replaced nitric acid with sulfuric acid.

reverso.net translates "essais" as "trials". This fits in this instance because drug and chemical testing often go through "trials" (i.e. preliminary tests) first.

Hello,
Thank you notrepere,
as you can imagine I hesitated to use test or trial, and I still don't surround the difference between these 2 words.

Test:
"3 machine/producta process used to discover whether equipment or a product works correctly, or to discover more about it:
nuclear weapons tests
test for
a test for chemicals in the water
Laboratory tests show that the new drug is very effective.
We went to the test site in Nevada.
"
Lien Internet

Trial:
"2 test[uncountable and countable] a process of testing to find out whether something works effectively and is safe:
a new drug that is undergoing clinical trials
"
Lien Internet

Perhaps a trial is the amount of the different tests made on a product?...

Hi Lucile. I'm no expert, I was just abiding by the translation in Reverso and it seemed to "fit" in this instance. The word "tests" is certainly correct to say because trials are also "tests" or "experiments". The only clue that this may have been a "trial" is that they changed acids. I would have also expected to see a different word other than "essais" if it was a test or experiment. You know me, I am King of literal translations. It is because of my "niveau".

Medical Dictionary
trials
1 : a tryout or experiment to test quality, value, or usefulness see clinical trial
2 : one of a number of repetitions of an experiment

Thank you

A trial may be made of different tests and last for several months or years.

In French we would say : expérience or expérimentation.

It's quite clear now,if that!

Bonsoir,

saluti
