I don't understand the nuance between the two following sentences, if anyone could explain me in English or in French, I will be glad
he kept opening the door
he kept the door open
I think it will be more understandable with concrete examples

Bonjour,
pour moi dans la première phrase je comprends qu'il agit en permanence sur la porte pour la maintenir ouverte ou qu'il l'ouvre à plusieurs reprises et dans la seconde il a gardé la porte ouverte mais il n'a pu la bloquer par exemple, en tous cas il n'agit plus sur la porte.

He kept the door open. = Il gardait (ou a gardé) la porte ouverte.
