Hello, dear Friends,

I) Translate into English:

II) Translate into French:
Whenever Henry Wilt took the dog for a walk, or, to be more accurate, when the dog took him, or, to be exact, when Mrs. Wilt told them both to go and take themselves out of the house so that she could do her yoga exercises, he always took the same route. In fact, the dog followed the route and Wilt followed the dog. They went down past the Post Office, across the playground, under the railway bridge and out on to the footpath by the river. A mile along the river and then under the railway line again and back through streets where the houses were bigger than Wilt’s semi and where there were large trees and gardens and the cars were all Rovers and Mercedes. It was there that Clem, a pedigree Labrador, evidently feeling more at home, did his business while Wilt was looking around rather uneasily, conscious that this was not his sort of neighbourhood and wishing it was. It was about the only time during their walk that he was at all aware of his surroundings.
Tom SHARPE, Wilt.

II) OPTIONAL:
Henry stops and admires a beautiful estate: he dreams… (Please, write down the number of words ; not more than 100.)

I give you THE FORCE... Please, give me YOUR BEST...

Thank you for this new exercise
This is my work .Ready to be corrected
Hello every one

0.1 ahead can be considered that it’s the line thickness : they are tightly bunched.
Thank you Maxwell !

Henry stops and admires a beautiful estate: he dreams… (Please, write down the number of words ; not more than 100.)

Henry stops and admires a beautiful estate: he can see that big house with red bricks over there on the top of the knoll. He was mowing a huge lawn while Clem, his best friend, was running around with a little ball in its mouth. Behind the house there is a carport where his Rover is parked and beside is a staircase leading up to a summer kitchen.
His wife isn’t there anymore, his life is changing since he has won the lottery…. She can do her yoga exercises somewhere else!
Suddenly a honk behind wakes him up…

I wish you a nice week

Hello,
I'll try the translation into French, the easiest part for me!

Tom SHARPE, Wilt.

Thanks.

Hello Here4u,

I – Into English

- My house has been searched around ! They have not pulled their punches : everything was messed up ! I’m not that pernickety but there are limits
- 0.1 ahead may seem trivial : they are neck to neck
- What are you cooking up ? Don’t answer ‘Nothing’ because I know you too well to believe you
- Sorry ! I was kidding but quite obviously I hit where it hurts
- LR ? Who’s that ? Another suitor or secret admirer ? Someone is going to move you away from me wooing you

II - Into French

Tom SHARPE,

Henry sat down on a bench looking thoughtfully at his frisky dog who seemed so happy in this setting. If only he had not married that spendthrift of a woman, always wanting something new : new furniture, new clothes, expensive holidays, yoga classes and so on.. he too could have bought such a house in such a neighbourhood. But there may exist a solution : get rid of her, rid of her ceaseless remarks.. he has to ponder over that, seriously…

Thank you once more for your correction

Merci Maxwell ! .
We think that 0.1 point ahead can be considered like the thickness of the line: they are held in a pocket handkerchief.

Hello here4u and maxwell! Thank you very much to you both! Finished.

Hi everybody!

Here is my try:
I) Translate into English:
My house has been searched from top to bottom ! Here, they didn’t pull any punches: everything is upside down! I am not a stickler for principles but there are limits…!

We can think that 0.1 progress status, it is the thickness of the line: there is hardly anything to choose between them.
Merci Maxwell !

What are you cooking up? Don’t answer “Nothing!”, so I know you a little too much well to have faith in you.”

«Sorry! I was kidding you, but there is a clear evidence that I have hit a nerve!”

5) " LR ? "
“LR? Who is he? Another suitor or a secret admirer? Someone who is going to try to make you grow apart from me by courting you…”

So long.

Hello my dear Here4u and Maxwell thanks for these great exercises ! FINISHED.

Hi Everybody! Here is my work:

I) Translate into English:
My house has been searched from top to bottom! Here, they were heavy-handed: everything is topsy turvy! I am not a stickler for principles but there are limits… !

We can believe that 0.1 progress status is the thickness of the line: there is hardly anything to choose between them.

What are you plotting? Don’t answer “ Nothing!” because I know you a bit too much well to believe (in) you.” (I 'll explain :"In" dans le sens « se fier à ce que tu dis… »)

« Sorry ! I was kidding you, but quite evidently, I’ve touched a nerve!”

5) " LR ? "
“LR? Who is that guy? Another suitor or a secret admirer? Someone who is trying to remove me from you by wooing you…”

J'utilise le passé dans la description.

Henry always dreamt opposite this house, its English garden. Hardly could he see a part of the house: the background was hidden by trees, with ferns, rhododendrons, roses at their feet.
“Its white frontage house with patio doors are obviously more lighted than mine! I wish I lived there, (…) and Eva weren’t my wife!” he said.
In the garden, he could see a pound where many fountains were singing, a bridge crossed over it to observe birds and insects.
At the foreground, a lane wound; on both sides: roses.
Further, a conservatory with tropical plants, surrounded by an orchard.

(= 100 words, I would have written pretty much more… ! ).

I give you THE FORCE... Please, give me YOUR BEST...
I give the force back to you for marking. I did my very best, of course, and I really loved working on these great excercise!!!!!!! Here4u ! But everything may happen with me, do you know?
Have a very sweet week!
See you soon.

Hello !

Several of you have told me that you had LOVED this exercise ... I’m glad you did, and I’m thrilled to read that some could have written much more about the essay... but you know, it’s often much more difficult ( and profitable...) to force oneself and be sure to find the right word, THE right structure to express what you mean... That effort is required here...

I smiled in horror... when someone of you wrote they hadn’t quite finished « THE FIFTY LINES » you were asked to produce... Then, PLEASE, 100 perfect WORDS will make me very happy!

Good evening, dear here4u,
As a starter
Before dinner,
I submit my work to you,
Ready to be tested,
Hoping you will like,
My tasteful appetizer.

I) Translate into English:

My house was searched from top to bottom ! They didn’t go halfway : everything was turned upside down ! I’m not a quirk about principles, but there are limits…
It can be considered that 0,1 points ahead is the thickness of a line: they are neck and neck.

« What are you plotting ? Don’t reply : «Nothing ! » Because I know you too well to believe you.”
« Sorry, I was joking, but clearly, I have touched where it hurts.”
5) " LR ? "
“LR ? Who is that? Another secret suitor or lover? Someone who attempts to woo you away from me.

II) OPTIONAL: Henry stops and admires a beautiful estate: he dreams… (Please, write down the number of words ; not more than 100.)

Henry stops and admires a beautiful estate:

He started to daydreaming how nice it would have been to live in one of those nice houses, amid such an enjoyable environment. And he might have been, indeed, but it could not because he got married to the wrong woman, who destroyed his life and harmed his career with her endless claims and tantrums.
Only when he and Clem could stay in this peaceful place for a while did he feel relaxed
and at ease, wondering if an "Act of God", maybe helped a bit by him, could make Mrs. Wilt disappear.....96

I liked it and I thank you very much indeed for making us improve our language skill.
Have a pleasant evening, dear friend.

So long.

Hello Here4U
Did I like it? I just loved it! That happens to be one of my favorites! The story was very funny (with what the dog was doing ) and so interesting with prepositions indicating directions, resultatives, which is something I must still work on!

I) Translate into English:
My house has been searched from top to bottom! They didn't go half-way: everything's upside down! I'm not a stickler for principles but there are limits!

A 0.1-point lead can be considered as a drop in the ocean: they're very close.

"What are you up to? (*) Don't answer "Nothing!" because I only know you a little bit too well to believe you."
(*) or: What are you planning

"Sorry! I was kidding, but obviously, I've touched where it hurts!"

5) " LR ? "
"LR? Who's that? A wooer or a secret admirer? Someone who is going to try to take you away from me, courting you..."

III) OPTIONAL:
Henry stops and admires a beautiful estate: he dreams? (Please, write down the number of words ; not more than 100.)

That day, while he was patiently waiting for his dog to leave a parcel on the lawn, Wilt gazed at a splendid property he usually overlooked: surrounded by a one-hundred-acre garden, large enough to put a golf course in place, that impressive character villa could house a swimming pool and a snooker hall, boast as many bedrooms and bathrooms as you wish, and accommodate domestics ready to take care of each and every one of your needs... Wilt was imagining living in this dream place when Clem barked. (90)

Hello, Dear Friends,

I) Translate into English:

My house has been searched from top to bottom… They’ve been heavy-handed! Everything’s upside down! I’m not a stickler for principles but there are limits…

- de fond en comble = from stem to stern/ from top to bottom/ from the ground up/ thoroughly/ hunt high and low -
- Ils n'y sont pas allés de main morte = they’ve been heavy-handed/ haven’t pulled their punches/ to go half-way/
- être sens dessus dessous != to be at sixes and sevens/ topsy-turvy/ upside down/ in disarray/ turn upside down – sont négatifs = wreak havoc/ ransack/
- être à cheval sur les principes= to be a stickler for principles

A 0.1-point lead can be considered to be a drop in the ocean: they're neck and neck…

- C'est l'épaisseur du trait = all the same…/ insubstantial/ negligible/ of little importance/ of no significance/ inconsiderable/ inessential/ insignificant/ a drop in the ocean (compared to)/ a tiny fraction (of)/ peanuts (compared to)/ chicken feed (compared to)/ Lien internet

- ils se tiennent dans un mouchoir de poche/ they are neck to neck/ it’s tight/ neck and neck/ on a par/

What are you up to? and don’t answer «Nothing!» because I know you a little too well for that!

- "mijoter" = ici, dans le sens familier de plot/ scheme/ cook up/ to be up to/
- un peu trop bien :n’est pas une formulation évidente pour certains d’entre vous : a little too well.

I was kidding, but obviously I’ve touched a nerve.

- Plaisanter = to be joking/ to be kidding/
- J’ai touché là où ça fait mal ! = I’ve tackled a thorny issue/ touched a nerve/ touched on a raw nerve/… where it hurts/ to strike (struck, struck) a chord/ Ici, il s’agissait du bilan d’action=> emploi du present perfect.

5.« LR ? »
LR? Who’s that? Another suitor or a secret admirer? Someone that’s going to try to woo you away from me…

- «Who’s that?» montre une certaine défiance (et donc une distance : "that" = éloignement !) envers cette personne inconnue (emploi péjoratif de « that »)
