Réponse: re de chrisg, postée le 2004-06-05 22:55:48 (S | E)
and ? .... ?

Réponse: ISMAMERA de mariet, postée le 2004-06-05 23:11:34 (S | E)
If it's a riddle I should think the answer is the letter E.

Assuming that I'm right (so much the worse if I'm not) and if you asked us to post new riddles here is

riddle #2
How many sides does a circle have ?

Réponse: re de rosminet, postée le 2004-06-05 23:23:13 (S | E)
and ... Belfast is the capital of Northern Ireland !!!

Réponse: re de rosminet, postée le 2004-06-05 23:24:17 (S | E)
riddle #2 : A circle has one side, hasn't it ?

Réponse: re de chrisg, postée le 2004-06-05 23:28:51 (S | E)
yes, a circle has 0 side ... it's not a disc (with a surface).

Réponse: to rominet and chrisg de mariet, postée le 2004-06-06 02:37:43 (S | E)
I'm sorry to say that none of you has given the correct answer.
Have another go!

I give you a hint : Don't forget! The answer is in English so... maybe it wouldn't work in another language.

Réponse: reISMAMERA de ISMAMERA, postée le 2004-06-06 09:22:04 (S | E)
sorry rosminet but it'snot correct . I said that it's a riddle . marriet found the solution . How about her new riddle ?

Réponse: reismamera de ISMAMERA, postée le 2004-06-06 09:26:56 (S | E)
Congratulations , marriet .The two sides are : C and e . Is it correct ? Thanks . Bye .

Réponse: reCHRISG de ISMAMERA, postée le 2004-06-06 09:30:51 (S | E)
I was sure that you'll be the first one who gives the solution !? What's happening ?

Réponse: to ISMAMERA de rosminet, postée le 2004-06-06 09:31:20 (S | E)
"The two sides are : C and e"

I don't think, that's so easy. Because Mariet said "The answer is in English so... maybe it wouldn't work in another language.", however your solution would work with a lot of languages !

Réponse: reto rosminet de ISMAMERA, postée le 2004-06-06 09:37:34 (S | E)
hello rosminet ! we don't speak about languages but capitalization .Bye

Réponse: Nope! de mariet, postée le 2004-06-06 12:35:23 (S | E)
Try again... and don't forget I'm no good at maths (in spite of the outrageously early course I've been assigned to by some of you!!!)!

Réponse: to ISMAMERA de rosminet, postée le 2004-06-06 12:45:38 (S | E)
"hello rosminet ! we don't speak about languages but capitalization .Bye".
ISMAMERA, I know we don't speak about languages, but I've read all the messages from Mariet.

And in one of them, she said, about her riddle :
"I give you a hint : Don't forget! The answer is in English so... maybe it wouldn't work in another language" !

Réponse: to mariet de rosminet, postée le 2004-06-06 12:47:15 (S | E)
Maybe 6 sides !

Réponse: to rosminet de mariet, postée le 2004-06-06 12:50:26 (S | E)
You're freezing!

Réponse: reto rosminet de ISMAMERA, postée le 2004-06-06 22:16:41 (S | E)
what's the matter rosminet ? are you angry? I didn't see English so mariet made a mistake instead of writing England she wrote English . Sorry !

How many sides does a circle have ?"

Dans un second message, elle dit : "I give you a hint : Don't forget! The answer is in English so... maybe it wouldn't work in another language"

That's all ! I'm not angry at all !

Entierement d'accord , tu vois les malentendus existent depuis tjs donc en relisant mariet , j'ai compris . But what is the solution for both ? bye, rosminet .

Réponse: to ISMAMERA de mariet, postée le 2004-06-06 23:36:03 (S | E)
You didn't give the correct answer but you were not too far...
Keep going in the same direction but put your thinking cap on again! ;-)

What is the side of a circle?
If you think of the circle as a disk then it it has an up-side and a down-side.
If you think of it as a curve, then it has an inside and an outside.
If you think of it as the limit of an n-sided regular polygon, then one can justify the answer that the circle has infinitely many infinitesimal sides.

My conclusion: the question, "How many sides does a circle have?", is too ambiguous to have a definite answer. Perhaps the appropriate response is "there is no natural way of saying what the side of a circle is."

Réponse: To mariet de ISMAMERA, postée le 2004-06-08 14:29:06 (S | E)
Hello,mariet.Are the two sides : a / have ? Oh , please don't say NO !
Bye .

Réponse: YES... Gizmo! de mariet, postée le 2004-06-08 22:09:54 (S | E)
The answer was : inside and outside. This kind of puzzle (like yours, ISMAMERA) generally involves "lateral thinking" and that's why it's confusing. Yours seemed to refer to geography, mine to geometry, and the answers were related to language...

What will Gizmo mislead us to ?

Réponse: to mariet de ISMAMERA, postée le 2004-06-08 23:44:15 (S | E)
it was too difficult . how about this one : what will happen when you and I are gone ? (always about lg ) . Good luck

Réponse: re de gizm0, postée le 2004-06-09 13:01:05 (S | E)
it depends on what you call "side" as mentioned in my post

Réponse: re à gizm0 de mariet, postée le 2004-06-10 03:41:56 (S | E)
As you say...
Aren't you going to give us a riddle too ? I haven't the faintest about ISMAMERA's 2nd one!!!
