perquisition / traduction
Message de allissaluna posté le 08-03-2005 à 13:57:05 (S | E | F | I)

Bonjour!

The sound of a car alerted them. / They were alerted by the sound or the roaring of a car.
Then, that of doors slamming in the night. Gestapo? Germans at any rate. They were alone to get around by car.
"What shall we do? said Marine.
"We are going to calm down", said Igor, "and we have to think about. Are there any backstairs?"
"Yes."
He opened the door. But a rumour informed him that the exit was already blocked.
"In what floor are we, here?"
"In the third floor."
He opened a little the black-covered window which overlooked the courtyard, and assessed the risk.
"It is too high to jump."

-Tu viens quand tu veux, Igor. C’est chez toi, ici.

A hubbub had overrun the house, which was being searched from top to bottom, by four men in civilian clothes, accompanied by the concierge. When they knocked at her place, Marine opened the door.
“Those men are looking for someone who has run away and according to them, he may have taken refuge in the building.”
“There is nobody here,” Marine replied, “you can search if you like.”
The two men explored / examined closely the cupboards, the bathroom, the kitchen, and then they left muttering some threats.
For a long time, the sound of their short-stay / visit on the floors above shook the building. At last, everything died down.
So, Marine opened the window. Hanged from an iron girder, the feet on a cornice, Igor finally dared to cough. He jumped into the room, and threw himself on the bed to regain his strength / to pull himself together.
“Igor, I was afraid, I was very much afraid,” Marine declared.
“Me too, I was afraid for you. I should have never come here tonight.”
“Come whenever you like, Igor. It is your home, here.” / You’re in your home, here.”

Merci d'avance pour vos réponses.
Alissa.

A plus tard pour une correction guidée.

Voici des indications pour la 1ère partie:
Mettre (peut-être ) à la forme passive :
They were WARNED ( alert = plutôt le sens de quick, agile /Warned = avertis), by the noise of a car. Then, there was in the night, the noise of doors being slammed. Gestapo? Germans, /at any rate/ in any case/. Only them ( = eux seulement) could/ were allowed to ( = être autorisés à) run by car.
- What are we going to do? ( qu'est-ce que nous allons faire?)
- Let's calm down, said Igor. Let's think it over.
- Are there any backstairs? ( stairs = pluriel)
- Yes.
He opened the door. A ......warned him that the exit was already blocked.( Si c'est une rumeur dans le sens de rumeur répandue par des gens : rumour/ si ce sont des bruits : din, clamour, uproar, noises)
-Tell me, what floor is it?
- 3rd floor.
He half opened(pour entrouvrir) the black covered window which was overlooking
( description) the yard and ......the risk.( to assess = evaluer une valeur / to ESTIMATE--> he estimated the risk)
- Too high to jump +down( - down = vers le bas: l'anglais précise car il y a aussi jump up etc...)

A bientôt!

(suite)...
An uproar/din/ loud noise/ had invaded the house which was being searched from top to bottom by four men in plain clothes (= en civil par opposition à l'uniforme de la police). They were accompanied by the caretaker. (=concierge en charge de l'immeuble). When they knocked, Marine opened the door.
These gentlemen here are looking for someone ... has escaped... must have found shelter in the building...so they say...
- There's no one here, Marine daid. Search if you like.
The two men thoroughly (à fond) examined the cupboards, the bathroom and the kitchen. Then (+ ce que vous avez écrit) ou/ muttered threats as they were leaving. The sound of their visit long disturbed the building. At last everything calmed down / died down/.Then ( so = donc--> savoir si c'est une conséquence qui est exprimée par le 'alors'... ou bien un événement qui se fait ensuite?...). Igor was there: standing on a cornice he was clinging to an iron girder. Finally he dared (X) cough. He jumped down into the room and threw himself on to the bed, trying to recover/ to pull himself together/ to collect himself.
- Igor, I was scared, so scared, marine said.
- So was I(reprise de l'auxiliaire). I was afraid for you. I should never have come here tonight.
- Come whenever you like, Igor. You're at home here.

Bon courage!

Bonne traduction! Mais quelques petites fautes. Voici ma proposition. Aux mots en () j'ai quelque doute.

They were alerted by the sound of an automobile. Then that of doors slamming in the night. Gestapo? Germans at any rate. They were the only ones to get around by car.

"What do we do?" said Marine. [On utilise temps présent, comme en français.]
"We calm down," said Igor, "and we think. Are there any (backstairs)?"
"Yes."
He opened the door. But a (hunch) told him that the exit was already blocked.
"What floor are we on here?"
"The third."
He cracked open the black-covered window which overlooked the courtyard, and assessed the risk.
"Too high to jump."

A hubbub/brouhaha had overrun the house that four men in civilian clothes were searching top to bottom, accompanied by the concierge. When they knocked on Marine's door, she opened it.
"These men are looking for someone who has fled and who according to them may have taken refuge in the building."
"There's nobody here," Marine replied. "You can look around if you like."
The two men searched the cupboards, the bathroom, the kitchen and then left muttering some threats.
For a long time, the sound of their passing through the floors shook the building. Finally, everything died down.
So Marine opened the window. Hanging from an iron girder, feet on a (corniche), Igor finally dared to cough. He jumped into the room, and threw himself on the bed to recuperate.
"Igor, I was afraid, I was very afraid," said Marine.
"I was also afraid, for you. I should have never come here tonight."
"You come whenever you like, Igor. This is your home here."
