J'ai vu l'autre jour que l'utilisation de "the" faisait problème. Je vous propose cet exercice. Revoyez mes explications sur le post en question.

1) Some teenagers hate (school).

2) What time do they finish (school) ?

3) After leaving (school), she worked as a receptionist (in/at ; hospital).

4) My sister is very ill in (hospital).

5) All over the world, people are in (prison) because of their political beliefs.

6) The other day the firemen had to go to (prison) to put ... a fire.

7) On the way to Hastings we stopped to visit (church).

8) His mother goes to (church) every Sunday.

9) Every term parents are invited to (school) to meet the teachers.

10)After (work), John usually goes (home).

11)Tom left (university) without doing his exams.

12)When Ann was ill, we all went to (hospital) to visit her.

13)I like to read in (bed) before going to sleep.

14)What time do you have to start (work) tomorrow morning ?

15)How many people go to (university) in your country ?

Adapted from "English grammar in use" by Raymond Murphy (Cambridge University Press).
Ce livre donne des explications sur la page de gauche et les exercices d'application sur la page de droite. Il est très bien fait.

Bon exercice!

En général, on emploie "THE", quand la question "Which one?" a de l'importe.

That's life - C'est la vie.

Mais si je me couche sur une plage tropicale, il se peut que je dise: "Ahhh, this is the life!" (Which life? The life everyone wants.)

6) The other day the firemen had to go to the prison to put out a fire.

- 4. sister
- 6. ...to the prison (travail) to put out a fire
- 10.work 14. work 11. university (étudiant) 13. in bed

Pour Kayrol :

- 3. at the hospital (travail) NB : id pour visiteurs
- 9. to the school (visiteurs)
-11. university (étudiant)
-12. to the hospital (visiteurs) 14. working/work

Pour Lyne :

- 6. to the prison (travail) to put out a fire (éteindre)
- 9. to the school (visiteurs) 11. university (étudiant)
-12. to the hospital (visiteurs)

Pour Kwame :

- 3. at the hospital (travail)
- 4 . ...pourtant tout à fait correcte !
- 6. to pot out a fire - éteindre

Pour Cleo :

- 2 = 1 : étudiants
- 3. at the hospital (travail)

Bonjour Elisa.
Tu n'as fait aucune erreur au niveau de l'objectif de l'exercice, càd "the" ou pas "the".
Juste un petit oubli : to put OUT a fire - éteindre un incendie.

Kayrol

Réponse: re:THE de willy, postée le 2004-11-01 22:06:30 (S | E)
Oui, Kayrol, OK pour "the" hospital mais il te fallait choisir la préposition "at", "in" n'étant pas correct ici.

Réponse: re:THE de kayrol, postée le 2004-11-01 22:18:41 (S | E)
ça y est alors j'ai compris, je n'avais pas capté qu'il fallait choisir entre at et in, j'étais fixée sur "the". sorry..
Merci Willy,
See you
